The Republic of Burundi and the Republic of Chad strengthen their cooperation through the signing of historic agreements

On the sidelines of the 45th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union held from 18 to 19 July 2024 in Accra, Ghana, a historic event marked the relationship between the Republic of Burundi and the Republic of Chad. These two nations have indeed signed two cooperation agreements: a Framework Agreement on Cooperation between Burundi and Chad, establishing the bases for enhanced collaboration in various areas such as economy, culture, education and security, as well as an Agreement on the Exemption of Visas for the holders of diplomatic, service and ordinary passports. That agreement will facilitate trade and travel between the two nations, allowing the holders of those passports to now travel without a visa between Burundi and Chad.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of those two countries, His Excellency Ambassador Albert Shingiro for Burundi and His Excellency Abderaman Koulamallah for Chad, expressed their wish to see a meeting between Chadian and Burundian experts to identify the priority areas of cooperation and define the modalities for implementing the agreements already signed, in order to strengthen cooperation between those two countries.

It should be noted that bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Burundi and Chad has been strengthened through reciprocal visits. The two countries agreed to develop their cooperation in several sectors, particularly in the aviation sector, the technological sector, as well as in the political and security fields.
