On August 4, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, H.E. Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA, received in audience H.E. Monsignor Dieudonné Datonou, Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Burundi.
The discussions focused on matters of common interest, as well as on the strengthening of the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Holy See and the Republic of Burundi.
During the meeting, H.E. Monsignor Dieudonné Datonou thanked the Minister for his availability and warm welcome. He also expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Burundi for the opening of its diplomatic mission to the Holy See, emphasizing that this initiative constitutes a significant step in strengthening the relations of friendship and cooperation between the Holy See and Burundi.
For his part, H.E. Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA reaffirmed that the relations between Burundi and the Holy See are excellent and deserve to be further consolidated. He indicated that the opening of Burundi’s diplomatic mission to the Holy See is part of this shared desire to strengthen bilateral ties. The Minister further specified that the next step will consist of proceeding with the appointment of an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Burundi to the Holy See
