On August 5, 2026, in Bujumbura, His Excellency Ambassador Édouard Bizimana, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, received in audience His Excellency Hubertus Klink, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Burundi, who had come to present the copies of his letters of credence.
Discussions focused on topics of mutual interest, particularly the strengthening of bilateral relations between Burundi and Germany. Minister Édouard Bizimana outlined the geopolitical situation in Burundi and the region, emphasizing that the country enjoys lasting stability and peace, with ensured security throughout the national territory.
He expressed regret that Germany had classified Burundi as a non-priority country in the context of German cooperation, and invited the new Head of Mission to work toward restoring trust and revitalizing bilateral relations. He further suggested reviving projects previously carried out by Germany in Burundi, such as twinning programs and other cooperation initiatives.
Taking the floor, His Excellency Mr. Hubertus Klink assured the audience that he was aware of the situation prevailing in Burundi and the region.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working tirelessly to improve bilateral and diplomatic relations between the two countries. He added that Germany will continue to support Burundi in its peacebuilding efforts and to contribute to finding lasting solutions to the conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
