The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation organized on Tuesday May 7, 2024, at the Donatus Conference Center, an Open Day, sixth edition, under the theme: “The role of economic diplomacy in the implementation of the Vision Burundi emerging country in 2040 and developed country in 2060. The day was characterized by presentations and discussions on different themes as well as a documentary film on the missions and achievements of the said ministry.

That Day saw the participation of the guests from governmental and non-governmental institutions including the Deputies and the Senators, the Mayor of the city of Bujumbura, the Senior State officials, the Heads of diplomatic and consular missions accredited to Burundi, the Representatives of the regional and international organizations accredited to Burundi, the Representatives of the religious faiths, the Representatives of the political parties approved in Bujumbura Town Hall, the Representatives of the local elected officials in Bujumbura Town Hall, the Representatives of NGOs approved in the Republic of Burundi, as well as the Executives and the Senior Executives of the Ministry.



The Open Day responds to the recommendations made to the public services by the Highest authorities of the Republic of Burundi, in that case by the most authoritative voice of His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, to strengthen the good governance through emphasizing the obligation to “account” and accountability of the state institutions towards the Burundian people.

The Mayor of the city of Bujumbura Bde General Pol Hatungimana Jimmy welcomed the holding of that activity in the city of Bujumbura. He specified that the theme chosen for that day is in line with the legitimate ambitions of the Government which aims to improve the well-being of the Burundian population.
The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Mr Mathieu Ciowela, indicated that Burundi, like other developing countries, needs a strong and effective partnership to meet the challenges of emergence. He indicated that the economic diplomacy is essential in achieving the “Vision Burundi emerging country in 2040 and developed country in 2060”. He reiterated the availability of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for supporting the strengthening of the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation in order to continue to provide it with the necessary technical and institutional means enabling it to accomplish its missions.
