
On August 28, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO received in audience the new Head of Swiss Cooperation and Consular Mrs. Yuka Greiler. They discussed about the strengthening of bilateral cooperation oriented towards sustainable development as well as cooperation in the region.
Bilateral relations between Switzerland and Burundi are good and focus mainly on economic development cooperation. Switzerland invests in various projects related to infrastructure, crafts, health, social housing, education, agriculture, security and good governance.
It should be noted that Switzerland recognized Burundi on the very day of its declaration of Independence in 1962, a bilateral development cooperation agreement was signed in 1972. Switzerland has a cooperation office in Bujumbura and leads a cooperation program covering the Great Lakes region (Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda).
