On Tuesday November 19, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, met the Diplomatic and Consular Corps and the Representatives of Regional and International Organizations accredited to Bujumbura, at Hôtel Club du Lac Tanganyika in a briefing organized for them.
During this session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, gave an overview of the Government’s top priorities and the general situation in the country, such as security and politics. He then spoke briefly about the situation in the region and addressed Burundi’s position on the global challenges and issues currently facing the world.
In the vision, the Government of Burundi is committed to an ambitious transformation aimed at building a future where every citizen will live in dignity, with a flourishing economy, supported by key sectors such as agronomy, high value-added industry and responsible mining, all in a preserved natural setting and with strict respect for equity and inclusion.
This is the reason why the Government of Burundi is organizing an Economic Round Table for national and foreign investors from the public and private sectors from December 5 to 6, 2024 in Bujumbura, which will offer participants a unique platform to explore growth and investment opportunities in high-potential sectors; meet key decision-makers from the Burundian government; access attractive incentives and facilities; interact with local and foreign entrepreneurs; benefit from a clear and up-to-date vision of the government’s priority projects, particularly in the context of the revised National Development Plan (NDP) 2018-2027, aligned with the Vision ‘’Burundi, an emergent country by 2040 and developed country by 2060’’.
In his speech, the Dean of the diplomatic corps accredited to Burundi, Ambassador General Major Matayo Kyaligonza thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation for organizing this briefing for diplomats. He pointed out that the briefing gave diplomats an official update on the general situation in the country and on the diplomatic front. He also congratulated the President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, on his accession to the presidency of the COMESA Authority and for having successfully hosted the summit. He praised the positive contribution that President Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE is making at regional level in terms of peace and stability.
During the discussions that followed, a number of ambassadors, including those of the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union and China, appreciated the organization of this Diplomatic Briefing. In their respective bilateral and multilateral frameworks, the partners will continue to work in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Burundi.
