The Ambassador of Burundi to Zambia participates to the 57th meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC)

On Friday, May 24, 2024, the Ambassador of Burundi accredited to Lusaka, Mrs Evelyne BUTOYI represented the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation at a meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee responsible of Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC) held in Luanda, Republic of Angola, from May 20 to 24, 2024, at the Conventions Hotel on the theme: “The Mediation initiatives at the regional level: Challenges and opportunities”.

  

All Member States of the UNSAC Committee and United Nations organizations which presented themselves as observers were also invited to that meeting. The activities were enhanced by the Angolan Minister in charge of External Relations, His Excellency Tête Antonio and incoming President of the Bureau of the UNSAC 57 Committee.

The purpose of that meeting was to assess the security issues that prevailed in the area of ​​the Community of Central African States (CCAS) from November 2023 to May 2024 under the Presidency of the Republic of Rwanda, including the review of the main trends and recent developments recorded in the region in terms of peace, security and stability which are: the general overview of the situation in the CCAS space; the political and institutional developments; the internal and cross-border security and the humanitarian situation.

There was a meeting of the focal points of the Member States of the Committee held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the Conventions Hotel in Luanda with the aim of assessing the implementation of the recommendations of the 56th UNSAC meeting held in Kigali from November 20 to 24, 2023.

From May 21 to 23, 2024, a meeting of experts was held at the Convention Hotel in Luanda. It was enhanced by the representative of the Republic of Rwanda, Mr Wilson RWIGAMBA, outgoing president of the office. Finally, the Committee moved on to the election of committee members for the next term. He was elected: the Republic of Angola as a President of the Bureau; the Central African Republic as a first vice-presidency; the Republic of Chad as second vice-presidency and the Republic of Equatorial Guinea as a Reporter.
