Meeting between the Burundian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the IMF representative

On Monday, June 6, 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Édouard Bizimana, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, received in audience Mr. Samuel Delepierre, Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Burundi, who came to bid farewell at the end of his three and a half year mission.

 
Mr. Delepierre expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Burundi for the welcome and cooperation he had received during his term in office. He stressed that the leadership of the President of the Republic has made it possible to relaunch and strengthen relations between Burundi and the IMF at all levels.

During the interview, the two personalities exchanged on various economic aspects and strategies to be implemented to stimulate the country’s growth. According to Mr. Delepierre, the IMF report published in June 2026 ranks Burundi in a much better position than in previous years. It commended the efforts of the Government, particularly in the area of budgetary discipline, which had contributed to a significant reduction in inflation.
He also presented an analysis on how to accelerate economic growth, boost exports and consolidate an effective monetary policy.
In response, Ambassador Bizimana reaffirmed the importance of the excellent relations between Burundi and the IMF, assuring that the recommendations and observations made will be taken into account. He recalled that Burundi is a peaceful country and that the Government remains committed to aligning its economic policy with the advice of IMF, with the will to move forward.
The Minister concluded by wishing full success to Mr. Delepierre in his future responsibilities, inviting him to remain a benevolent ambassador of Burundi. Finally, he assured that close cooperation with the IMF would continue.
