The Diaspora Week organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation that took place from July 30 to August 1st for Burundians living and working abroad went on with a visit to the IMENA SOMA USUBIRE company located in Kayanza.
The visit to this company enabled Burundian Diaspora to reflect further on their contribution to the country’s development. It was an opportunity to discuss about some facts relating to the country’s development as raised in the various presentations of the day.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO, expressed his delight to have done this activity, starting by giving thanks to the Almighty God who had watched over the entire delegation throughout the Diaspora Week. He recalled that the development of Burundi is proportional to the united strengths of Burundians living and working abroad, and Burundian entrepreneurs, pushing forward to create the foundation for the country’s development by implementing this vision: “The role of the Burundian diaspora in implementing the vision of Burundi as an emerging country by 20240 and a developed country by 2060”.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation thanked all the partners who had financed that activity along with all those who contributed to its success.
The Representative of Burundian Diaspora, Mr. Samuel Ndayiragije, took the floor and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation for organizing the Diaspora Week. He invited all the Burundian diaspora to love their home country, to invest in their native provinces and to visit different places of Burundi in order to contribute to the improvement of all sectors, and to be a diaspora with economic rather than political goals, for the achievement of the vision of Burundi as an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.
In his closing remarks, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation invited the Diaspora who are on holidays in Burundi to visit their communes of origin for the celebration of the Communal day, which is celebrated every first Saturday of August, and this year on August 3rd, 2024. The activities were rounded off by an enjoyable meal shared joyously by all the participants.
