Burundi at the heart of African Climate Debates: a committed voice at the Second African Climate Summit

From September 8 to 10, 2025, Addis Ababa is hosting the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), a continent-wide gathering bringing together more than 25,000 participants, including 45 Heads of State and Government, experts, representatives from the private sector, civil society, youth leaders, and indigenous peoples. Under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development ,” the summit aims to catalyze concrete commitments on climate finance, technological innovation, and sustainable development. Organized by the Ethiopian Government in partnership with the African Union, the event marks a decisive step in the implementation of the resolutions adopted at the first Summit held in Nairobi in 2023.

The Republic of Burundi, represented by His Excellency Ambassador Edouard BIZIMANA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, is playing an active role. In his speech, the Minister delivered a strong message, highlighting Africa’s vulnerability to the effects of climate change, despite its low contribution to global emissions. He discussed Burundi’s realities—drought, food insecurity, forced displacement—while calling for increased international solidarity and respect for financial commitments to the continent. Burundi thus reaffirms its commitment to act, innovate, and collaborate for a sustainable, equitable, and resilient future, while raising the voice of an Africa that is certainly a victim, but also a bearer of solutions.
