The Joint Economic Commission, established by Article 6 of the Trade and Economic Cooperation Agreement signed in Ankara on August 27, 2015 between the Government of the Republic of Burundi and the Government of the Republic of Turkey, held its first session in Ankara on June 16 and 17, 2026.
The Burundian delegation was led by H.E. Edouard BIZIMANA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, and the Turkish delegation was led by H.E. Yasar GÜLER, Minister of National Defence.

The Parties noted with satisfaction the first visit to Turkey by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, H.E. Edouard Bizimana, as Head of the Burundian delegation. The Turkish side congratulated Burundi on assuming the chairmanship of the African Union.
The Heads of Delegations stressed that cooperation between Turkey and Burundi needs to be further developed in various fields: trade, investment, tourism, agriculture, education, transport, health, communication and media, etc., in order to fully reflect the existing potential between the two countries.
The Heads of Delegations stressed the importance of working together to diversify and develop areas of cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual benefit.
The discussions between the two delegations took place in a sincere atmosphere reflecting the desire to further develop existing friendly relations and trade, economic and cultural ties.
Alongside the work of the joint commission, the Burundian delegation had the opportunity to visit several Turkish companies to witness their dynamism firsthand. To symbolize the enduring and vibrant relationship between Burundi and Turkey, Minister Bizimana planted a tree in the garden of one of the visited companies. Like a plant, relations between states must be nurtured and cared for daily to grow, strengthen, and produce results beneficial to all parties. The Minister Bizimana has committed to ensuring this.
