Extraordinary General Assembly of the Burundian Diaspora: major resolutions adopted

The Burundian Diaspora has taken a new step in its organization and commitment to the country’s development. On March 15, 2026, an Extraordinary General Assembly was held online via the Zoom platform, chaired by Mr. Samuel NDAYIRAGIJE, President of the Burundian Diaspora, bringing together leaders of Country Organizations (COs), continental representatives, and other members of the Burundian community living abroad.

This meeting, held as an evidence of dialogue and responsibility, resulted in the adoption of several structuring resolutions for the future of the Diaspora.

The main decisions taken during this meeting are:

  • A five-year Diaspora membership card will be introduced to strengthen the identification and structuring of members.
  • This card will cost an amount equivalent to one million BIF (1,000,000 bif) for members engaged in professional activity, and five hundred thousand BIF (500,000 bif) for students and pupils.
  • The creation of an investment company intended to promote the direct participation of the Diaspora in Burundi’s development projects. Each member will be able to acquire shares worth ten million BIF (10,000,000 bif), with a ceiling set at ten shares, representing a maximum investment of one hundred million BIF (100,000,000 bif) per person.

These resolutions reflect a clear desire to strengthen the cohesion and capacity for action of the Burundian Diaspora. By structuring its organization and creating a collective investment’s instrument, the Burundian Diaspora intends to play a more active role in the country’s economic and social initiatives, in line with the vision of Burundi as an emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.

This Assembly thus marks a turning point in the mobilization of Burundians abroad, who now wish to assert themselves as key players in national development.
