On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Mr. Sophonie Nitunga, Permanent Secretary in charge of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, received in audience Mrs. Delphine Van Landschoot, Chargé d’Affaires at the European Union (EU).
The discussions focused on the work of the Technical Partnership Committee between Burundi and the European Union. They briefly addressed the composition and functioning of this Committee. They also discussed the organization of a meeting of the Technical Committee in preparation for the political dialogue, taking into account the numerous projects that the European Union is undertaking in collaboration with the African Union, of which Burundi currently holds the presidency.
A provisional date for this meeting has been set for April 9, 2026.
It is worth noting that the Technical Partnership Committee between Burundi and the European Union regularly organizes preparatory meetings for the political dialogue
between the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Ambassadors accredited in Burundi.
The Burundian Technical Committee is composed of the Permanent Secretary in charge of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, as well as technical Cabinet advisors. The Permanent Secretary presides over this Committee, while the Head of the European Union Delegation serves as the Chairperson on the European side.
During technical meetings, both parties jointly examine the topics to be addressed and select the points to be included in the agenda for the political dialogue.
This dialogue is of paramount importance, as it provides a valuable opportunity for both sides to present the realities of their situation and propose measures
to strengthen national security, with the aim of promoting sustainable development
