Celebration of the National Day of the Federal Republic of Germany in Burundi

On the occasion of the National Day of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Sydie Manirerekana, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, represented His Excellency the Minister at the official ceremonies held on October 3, 2025. He recalled the Burundian Government’s commitment to pursue institutional reforms to ensure economic growth, while calling for greater international cooperation in the face of current challenges such as economic crises and climate change.

 

In his opening speech, Mr. Manirerekana congratulated the German people on the celebration of the 35th anniversary of German reunification, which marked a historic moment not only for the German people but also for the world. The fall of the Berlin Wall, a symbol of liberation and unity, was presented as a powerful example of victory over division. The Assistant Minister also highlighted the quality of the historic ties between Burundi and Germany, which date back to the colonial era of the 19th century.

Taking the floor at the celebration, the German Ambassador to Burundi expressed his joy at sharing this moment with the community and recalled that German reunification in 1990 was achieved after a painful separation and symbolized the triumph of democracy over oppression. The Ambassador also highlighted Germany’s commitment to international cooperation within the United Nations and its determination to carry out reforms to address global challenges. He also mentioned Germany’s contributions to development in Burundi, emphasizing the multilateral approach and Germany’s commitment as a reliable partner. He referred to cooperation projects with the Land of Baden-Württemberg and expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral relations through high-level meetings.

This celebration demonstrated the importance of German-Burundian relations and the shared commitment to building a better future, reaffirming the determination to work together to address global challenges and promote peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
