Celebration of International Women’s Day at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation

On Monday March 18, 2024, the Permanent Secretary, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Mr. Ferdinand Bashikako and senior executives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation joined the female staff of the said Ministry in the ceremonies of International Women’s Day.

Those ceremonies took place at the Source du Nil Hotel in Bujumbura under the theme chosen at the national level “Let’s walk together with women in development by increasing the production”.

In his words of circumstance, Mr. Ferdinand Bashikako was inspired by the words of circumstance of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye relating to the International Women’s Day, 2024 Edition by which he called on the women to respect the measures of hygiene all around their homes and in their workplaces in order to stop the spread of the diseases from dirty hands.

Mr. Ferdinand Bashikako continued by inviting the woman to work hard by following up on the files entrusted to her.

In order to achieve the vision of Burundi as an Emerging country in 2040 and a Developed country in 2060, every man is called upon to support the women in the development activities. Furthermore, by working together with the women in development work, production will undoubtedly be increased.

Speaking, the Representative of the Gender Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Ambassador Salomé NDAYISABA, first thanked the the senior executives of the Ministry for having placed trust in women and showing them respect.

She said she was satisfied with the step already taken by the Gender Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation to see the importance and the place given to the women. She congratulated the women and encouraged them for strengthening their efforts in increasing production.
