On Friday, November 28, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation organized an exchange and information session meeting for the Diplomatic and Consular Corps and Representatives of International and Regional Organizations to discuss the geopolitical and economic situation in Burundi, at the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika, in Bujumbura.

His Excellency Ambassador Edouard Bizimana, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, warmly welcomed the diplomats and representatives of international and regional organizations. He warmly appreciated their honorable presence at the meeting, which demonstrates the confidence they place in Burundi and their respective countries. It is also a sign of the good diplomatic relations that exist between Burundi and the countries they represent.
This meeting was an opportunity to consolidate bilateral relations between partner countries with a view to strengthening multisectoral cooperation for the benefit of all.
His Excellency Ambassador Edouard Bizimana emphasized that the meeting took place on the eve of free, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful legislative elections. He praised the patriotic maturity of the Burundian people, which is demonstrated by their financing of the elections themselves, using their own funds, without resorting to external assistance. This is a testimony to the Burundian people’s commitment to promoting democracy and consolidating peace and security. It also gives confidence that the upcoming presidential elections will be successful, as Burundi has put forward initiatives that strengthen peaceful conflict resolution, dialogue, mediation, and negotiation. Burundi is moving forward with dignity, peace, development, and sovereignty.
As part of the implementation of Burundi’s vision of becoming an “Emerging Country by 2040 and a Developed Country by 2060,” His Excellency the President of the Republic of Burundi has already set a goal for the development of the country by putting in place the Vision documents as well as the revised National Development Plan and other strategic documents, including the National Development Cooperation Strategy (SNCD). He has resolutely focused on an economic diplomacy approach based on mutually beneficial partnerships.
Considering that 2025 has been declared a benchmark year for the implementation of the country’s Vision, Burundi has proposed the establishment of economic diplomacy as an appropriate framework for coordinating the various partnerships for sustainable and inclusive development. The Burundian people share the same aspirations and commitment to promoting South-South cooperation and a mutual desire to share experiences and expertise in the areas of economic, commercial, scientific, and cultural cooperation, as well as in education and ICT.
In the context of good governance, Burundi is fighting for positive change in behavior and attitudes in order to establish budgetary discipline and combat corruption by denouncing cases of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds and fighting against favoritism. It should be noted that Burundi was unanimously elected as a member of the African Union Advisory Board on Corruption by the African Union Executive Council in Malabo during the 47th Session of the African Union Executive Council on July 10, 2025.
On the political and security front, he reported that political stability in the country is positive. He noted that the presence of the Burundian army in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) helps to ensure security in the DRC and protect the borders of the DRC and Burundi, given that it is a neighboring country of Burundi.
In terms of development cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Edouard Bizimana emphasized that Burundi is opening up to the world with pragmatism, highlighting its natural assets, its dynamic youth, and its significantly improving business climate.
Bilateral relations, which are being strengthened and explored by the President of the Republic of Burundi, His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, are experiencing technological advances , and the path towards an emerging Burundi in 2040 and a developed Burundi in 2060 is already taken. This is reinforced by the signing of cooperation agreements between Burundi and partner countries, including the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Vietnam, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Russian Federation.
It is also worth mentioning infrastructure and energy projects such as the Jiji-Murembwe Dam, Kabu-16, Mubuga Solar Power Station, and the standard gauge railway (Uvinza-Gitega). These are crucial infrastructure projects that will reduce logistics costs, attract investment, and boost energy resilience. On this point, he asked diplomats to follow Burundi’s lead in supporting the implementation of this vision by continuing to provide financial support to the agricultural, infrastructure, and light industry sectors in order to realize the slogan “Turikumwe twese turashoboye.”
In promoting migrant employment, Burundi is involved in the whole process from the job search stage and even in cases where migrant workers encounter difficulties abroad. Migrant workers are advised to go through legal channels in order to benefit from all the advantages available to them.
Minister Edouard Bizimana concluded by wishing the diplomats a happy Christmas and New Year 2026, reminding them to be the true ambassadors of the good situation in Burundi in the countries they represent. He asked them to take advantage of the holidays to mobilize investors in their respective countries to come and seize the opportunities available in Burundi.
