On April 8, 2026, Mr. Adolphe Bukuru, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, received in audience Mr. Abdelouahhab Makhtari, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco to Burundi, accompanied by his French counterpart Jérémy GRANG, who brought an invitation for His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation to participate in the 2nd Francophonie Conference on Peace, to be jointly organized by Morocco and France under the auspices of the United Nations in Rabat, Morocco, on May 20, 2026.

Appreciating the long-standing excellent relations between Burundi and the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Makhtari emphasized that Burundi is a key country within La Francophonie and that its participation in the 2nd Francophonie Conference on Peace would be of vital importance given that Burundi holds the Presidency of the African Union and is also the only French-speaking country in the East African Community, and that French became the official language of the East African Community thanks to Burundi.

During discussions between these officials, they discussed again on the strengthening of bilateral relations through the promotion of La Francophonie’s values, notably the promotion of the French language, cultural diversity, peace, democracy and human rights. On that occasion, Mr. Makhtari expressed the wish to see His Excellency the Minister pay a visit to his Moroccan counterpart
