Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Burundi
On October 2, 2025, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA, received in audience Her Excellency Madam Lisa Peterson, Ambassador of the United States of America to Burundi. This meeting is part of the regular dialogue between the Government of Burundi and its strategic partners, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting concerted solutions to common challenges.
During the discussions, the two officials addressed several issues of shared interest, including the review of funding measures taken by the U.S. government, the management of Burundian migrants heading to the United States, as well as the challenges related to peace and security in the region. These discussions reaffirmed
the importance of a coordinated approach that respects national priorities in addressing these sensitive issues.
Furthermore, the interlocutors discussed the prospects for strengthening regional economic integration, which is considered an essential foundation for consolidating
lasting peace. The Minister praised the commitment of the United States to promoting regional stability and reiterated the Government of Burundi’s willingness to pursue constructive cooperation based on mutual respect and alignment with national strategic orientations.
