A prosperous and sustainable Africa and Europe

At the sixth European Union-African Union summit, the Heads of State or Government of the Member States of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU), announced an Africa-Europe investment package d 150 billion euros at the service of their common ambition for 2030 and the AU’s 2063 agenda, and which is composed of three components relating to investments, health and education. The investment package will contribute to building more diversified, inclusive, sustainable and resilient economies. Both continents aim to demonstrate and share with the rest of the world the success of an agenda for prosperity that respects their citizens and their planet. As part of the “Global Gateway” strategy, this investment package aims to stimulate public and private investment by building on existing initiatives and partnerships.

This package will encourage large-scale sustainable investments, with the support of Team Europe initiatives, taking due account of the priorities and needs of African countries, including: investments in energy, transport and digital infrastructure aligned with the second priority action plan of the program for infrastructure development in Africa (PIDA-PAP II); a fair and equitable energy transition, taking into account the specific and diverse orientations of African countries with regard to access to electricity; ecological transition, including support for the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) of African countries under the Paris Agreement to strengthen adaptation and mitigation; digital transformation for trusted connectivity through investments in infrastructure and affordable and improved access to the digital economy and data economy, while boosting digital entrepreneurship and skills; sustainable growth and the creation of decent jobs, including investing in the creation of youth-owned businesses in Africa; transport facilitation and the efficiency of connected transport networks; human development, in particular by strengthening the mobility and employability of students, young graduates and skilled workers. The package will also support industrialization and the development of sustainable and resilient supply and value chains.
