
On June 3, 2024, the Ambassador of Burundi in Lusaka H.E Mrs Evelyne Butoyi presented to the President of Angola, His Excellency Mr Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco her letters of credence accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Burundi in Angola with residence in Lusaka, Zambia.
Burundi and Angola maintain excellent relations of friendship and cooperation. Those relations have already materialized among others through the signing of Cooperation Agreements such as an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Angola and the Republic of Burundi on the regular diplomatic consultations, signed in Luanda on April 27, 2011, a General Agreement of Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Angola and the Government of the Republic of Burundi, signed in Luanda, on April 27, 2010.
Cooperation between Burundi and Angola is also carried out through the regional and sub-regional international structures of which they are members. On February 3, 2009 in Addis Ababa, His Excellency Mr Pierre Nkurunziza, Ex-President of the Republic of Burundi had meetings with the Honorable President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola during which, he was agreed to promote cooperation between Burundi and Angola, particularly in the military, intelligence, education, energy and mines, medical, agricultural and the commercial fields.
As part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, exchanges of visits including the participation of the Angolan Ombudsman in the conference of Ombudsmans of the region which took place in Bujumbura at the end of August 2022, and the participation of the Vice -Burundian President at the inauguration of the re-elected Angolan President on September 13, 2022 took place. The presentation of the letters of credence of H.E.Ambassador Evelyne Butoyi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Burundi to the Republic of Angola, with residence in Lusaka, Zambia on July 3, 2024 also strengthens those relations.
Note that the first session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between Burundi and Angola is planned to be held in November 2024.
