On wednesday september 27, 2023, the Agency for the Promotion and Development of Tourism in Burundi “Visit Burundi”, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism in Burundi, organized a festival evening at Eden Garden Resort on the theme “Tourism for Green Investments” to close the World Tourism Day 2023 in style.

That evening saw the presence of various personalities, namely the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mrs. Marie Chantal NIJIMBERE, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, the Director General of Tourism Mr. Jacques BIGIRIMANA, Miss Burundi 2023, Lellie Carelle NDAYIZEYE and many other music industry influencers.
In her speech for the occasion, Mrs. Marie Chantal NIJIMBERE, the Minister in charge of Tourism, indicated that the climate change is increasingly becoming a growing concern in the World in general and Burundi in particular. “The risks of the climate change as well as the effects attributable to the transition to a low-carbon economy represent a real threat to the stability of the financial sector. Responsible or sustainable investment generally corresponds to an approach which, in addition to taking into account the usual financial criteria, integrates the environmental, social and governance criteria into the investment decisions. She launched a vibrant appeal to the technology companies and tourism players who have already jumped on the bandwagon by investing in innovation, entrepreneurship and the digital transformation that they must now integrate the risks linked to the climate change into their investment and the risk management processes.

For Bruce NIYONZIMA, Director General of the Tourism Promotion and Development Agency in Burundi “Visit Burundi”, green investment promotes the country’s energy and ecological transition. “The theme Tourism for the Green Investments is timely as the Government of Burundi encourages that all the investment projects must engage in the sustainable projects that aim at reducing the climate change. It is a good time to rethink the development of the tourism sector at the same time to the future generations. She took that opportunity to thank the UNECA, East Africa Office under the leadership of MMA Keita for its commitment to technically support Burundi for the implementation place strategic documents for the sustainable development of tourism”.

Note that in that closing festival evening of the World Tourism Day 2023, the Agency for the Promotion and Development of Tourism in Burundi “Visit Burundi” awarded a prize to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation H.E Ambassador Albert Shingiro following his involvement in the promotion of tourism especially in the work aimed at promoting the tourism and encouraging the foreign investors to invest in the tourism sector.
