Workshop on East African road transport regulations

On Tuesday March 31, 2026, in Gitega, Dr Pacifique NIYONIZIGIYE, Head of the Coordination of Burundi’s Positions within the East African Community at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, officially launched a two-day workshop dedicated to raising awareness among stakeholders regarding East African road transport regulations.

In his address, he noted that, despite Burundi’s accession to the Community’s texts, national transposition is still lagging behind. In particular, many stakeholders are unaware of the 2016 Law on Vehicle Load Control and its implementing regulations.

The objectives of this workshop were to present the regional regulations, to promote the acceleration of institutional reforms, and to turn participants into effective advocates for the adoption of Community instruments relating to load control
