Visit of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Burundi

On Wednesday November 15, 2023, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud paid a one-day working visit to Burundi.

At the Melchior NDADAYE International Airport, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO. At the Presidential Palace, he was warmly welcomed by His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, the President of the Republic of Burundi.

The President of the Republic of Burundi and his Somali Counterpart discussed the strengthening of their excellent bilateral relations which have existed for a long time between, not only the two Governments, but also between the Burundian and Somali people as indicated by Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO , Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation. They also welcomed the creation of the Joint Cooperation Commission responsible for defining a framework for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different sectors such as defense, security, agriculture, education, health, tourism, and commerce, etc.

The Somali President thanked his Burundian Counterpart for his remarkable efforts in restoring peace and security in Somalia through the African Union transitional mission in Somalia. The two Heads of State paid tribute to the Burundian troops, the Somali National Army and other troops who are on the front line fighting the terrorist group.

They also discussed their commitment to the priorities of the East African Community (EAC) for the period 2022-2026, namely the full implementation of the single customs window, the strengthening of peace, security, good governance in the region and the strengthening regional integration.
