The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation signs the seating agreements with the ECCAS

On Monday May 6, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO signed two seating agreements between Burundi and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), one relates to the ECCAS Representative Office in Burundi and the other relates to the Regional Water Resources Management Center. The Minister of the Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Mr Prosper DODIKO and other executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation were also guests at those ceremonies.

 

In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation reaffirmed that the friendships between Burundi and ECCAS existed for a long time and that the signing of those agreements will further cement the already existing good relations.

The Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO said that Burundi is determined to contribute to the achievement of the objective targeted by the ECCAS Institutional Reform “Improve the effectiveness and efficiency of ECCAS with the aim of achieving a qualitative leap major role in the governance of the Organization to make it a viable and strong Regional Economic Community, equipped with an Executive with a renovated architecture adapted to the challenges of the contemporary world.

He added that for the Government of Burundi water is a major element in all sectors of the country life in general. He assured the ECCAS delegation that Burundi is ready to follow up the establishment of an Integrated Center of Excellence on Water Issues to serve the African Water Vision (AWV) worded as follows: “an Africa where the water resources are used and managed equitably and sustainably for the purposes of the socio-economic development, the regional cooperation and the environmental protection”.

Regarding the Community Court of Auditors, Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO said that Burundi is ready to contribute to the implementation of that project and host it so that Africa is a stable, peaceful, prosperous region and united in all sectors. Burundi reaffirms its commitment to the strengthening of the cooperation and implementing those two projects in the interest of the two respective peoples.

The President of the ECCAS Commission Ambassador Gilberto da piedade VERISSIMO expressed his gratitude to the speech of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, which were quite rich and important, and reaffirmed that he and his delegation will do their best to bring those two signed projects to the realization.
