The Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs presents the activities carried out for the 4th quarter (from April 1st to June 30th, 2026)

On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA, presented the activities carried out for the 4th quarter, covering the period from April 1st to June 30th, 2026.

In his speech, Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA recalled that the objective of this exercise is to present to both national and international public opinion what the Ministry accomplishes on a daily basis. He indicated that this exercise allows for an assessment of results, challenges, and perspectives. His presentation focused on four (4) programs, namely: defending the interests of Burundi and Burundians internationally, regional integration and international cooperation, Burundi’s integration within the East African Community, and general administration.

   

In the framework of strengthening bilateral cooperation and political-diplomatic gains, Minister BIZIMANA highlighted that the Ministry participated in the adoption sessions of several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding signed with Ethiopia in various fields, such as: health, agriculture, education, tourism, water and energy, defense, digital identification, and public digital infrastructure. He also noted the holding of joint cooperation commissions with different partners.In the framework of diplomatic strengthening, Ambassador Édouard BIZIMANA stated that the Ministry participated in high-level meetings to strengthen diplomatic relations between Burundi and partner countries. Within this same framework, other activities were carried out to ensure good collaboration between the Ministry and other countries, such as audiences and courtesy visits.

As for Burundi’s integration within the East African Community, the Minister indicated that Burundi participated in various decision-making meetings at the EAC level and in Fora organized at the Regional and International levels. Minister Édouard BIZIMANA spoke about the cleanliness and rehabilitation activities of the Ministry’s buildings, citing the rehabilitation of the Ministry’s offices located on UPRONA Boulevard, the installation of flagpoles for resident Embassies in Burundi to ensure the Ministry’s visibility, tiling work in the Ministry’s cabinet building, and the installation of an incinerator to ensure cleanliness. He stated that in the framework of strengthening diplomatic relations, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as Burundi’s interests internationally, several foreign delegations were welcomed and supported during the Diplomatic Week, Diaspora Week, and the Continental Dialogue. He commended how the Ministry’s steering committee and protocol team dedicate themselves body and soul during these events to achieve the best results.

The Minister concluded by thanking the Ministry’s staff, both from the central administration and the foreign service, for their commitment. He called upon Burundians to redouble their efforts and maintain their dedication to achieving the shared vision of Burundi as an emerging country in 2040 and a developed country in 2060.
