Commemorated the assassination of the heroes of Independence and Democracy at the Embassy of Burundi in Morocco.

The Embassy of the Republic of Burundi in the Kingdom of Morocco organized, on October 21, 2023 at the Chancellery of the Embassy of Burundi in Rabat, the ceremonies for commemoration of the assassination of the hero of Independence, Prince Louis RWAGASORE and the assassination of the hero of Democracy, the late President Melchior NDADAYE. They brought together the Representatives of the Burundian Community in the Kingdom of Morocco as well as the Staff of the Embassy.

Those ceremonies were marked by a session of contemplation in the grounds of the building housing the Embassy in front of the portraits of the two heroes illuminated by the lit candles and a bouquet of flowers prepared for the occasion. That was an opportunity to listen to the historic speeches delivered by Prince Louis RWAGASORE in 1961 after the victory of the Independence party and the late Melchior NDADAYE in 1993 following the victory of the FRODEBU party.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi, H.E.M Nestor BANKUMUKUNZI took the opportunity to talk about some ideas from the two historic speeches. He underlined its timeless nature so that the vision of the two heroes fits perfectly with the challenges of Burundi in 2023 and therefore with that of the Government of the Republic of Burundi. Those include good governance, patriotism, love of work, the sacred nature of human rights, justice for all, freedom and naturally Independence, Democracy, etc.

Ambassador Bankumukunzi brought together the program of the Hero of Independence and that of the Hero of Democracy with the vision of Burundi, a country emerging in 2040 and developed in 2060 initiated by the Government. Participants in the ceremonies were invited to keep in mind that achieving this objective is the responsibility of all Burundians in general, without forgetting the country’s future executive students and those continuing their studies in Morocco. “In your place as tomorrow’s executives, I would constantly feel the weight of duty to implement this vision which will inevitably require a lot of effort and self-sacrifice,” insisted Ambassador Bankumukunzi. He urged each of the participants in the ceremonies to ask themselves the question of their role in achieving the vast development project initiated by the Government to lift Burundi out of poverty with a view to the well-being of Burundians, the ultimate dream of both hero.

He finally underlined that everything begins with the flawless fulfillment of everyone’s duty, referring to the students who are called upon to focus on their studies to succeed and with dignified and adequate behavior to contribute to maintaining the positive image of Burundi. The ceremonies were closed by sharing a drink in a climate of exchange and conviviality.
