Audience granted to a KOICA delegation by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, Sophonie NITUNGA, received in audience, this September 24, 2026, a delegation from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), led by Kapchae Ra, KOICA Country Director in Rwanda, who was on a courtesy visit.

In his welcoming remarks, the Permanent Secretary emphasized that Burundi remains a peaceful country where stability and security prevail throughout the national territory. On this occasion, he expressed his deep gratitude for the excellent diplomatic and cooperation relations between Burundi and the Republic of Korea.

He also commended the multiple forms of support provided by the Republic of Korea to Burundi in various development sectors, thereby reflecting the strength of the partnership between the two countries.
Speaking on his turn, Kapchae Ra indicated that upon his arrival in Burundi, he was favorably impressed by the climate of peace and stability prevailing in the country. He specified that his mission was part of the follow-up on projects implemented through the partnership between the Republic of Korea and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), particularly those aimed at promoting the reintegration and socio-economic inclusion of returnees.
He further announced that the Korean Government, through KOICA, has mobilized over six million US dollars to support humanitarian actions and initiatives dedicated to the beneficiary populations. He also congratulated UNHCR-Burundi for the progress achieved in implementing these projects, citing notably the construction and inauguration of fundamental schools as well as the development of sports and recreational infrastructure.
The discussions also covered several matters of mutual interest, including strengthening the bilateral partnership between Burundi and the Republic of Korea in the fields of education, capacity building, and material support for development.

At the end of this meeting, the Permanent Secretary and Kapchae Ra agreed to continue discussions on these various issues during the upcoming visit to Burundi by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea.
Closing the meeting, Sophonie NITUNGA reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Burundi to further consolidate the excellent relations of friendship, cooperation, and partnership linking Burundi and the Republic of Korea
