Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Burundi
A handover ceremony between the incoming Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, Ambassador Else NIZIGAMA, and the outgoing Assistant Minister, Mr. Adolphe BUKURU, was held this Monday, August 3, 2026.
The ceremony was chaired by H.E. Ambassador Edouard BIZIMANA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, in the presence of senior and mid-level officials of the Ministry.
In his address, the Minister offered valuable advice to the new Assistant Minister to guide her in the exercise of her new duties. He presented the main ongoing dossiers, notably the rehabilitation work of the Ministry’s headquarters, the various joint commissions under preparation, the project to construct the future Ministry building in Gitega, as well as the major continental and international meetings for which Burundi is currently handling the preparations.
The Minister also invited the senior and mid-level officials present to provide the new Assistant Minister with all the necessary collaboration and support to enable her to effectively carry out her mission. He reiterated his call to strengthen the spirit of collaboration within the Ministry, recalling that teamwork is the key to success. Furthermore, he urged all staff to banish any form of malpractice, demonstrate integrity, and devote themselves fully to work in the supreme interest of the nation.
Taking the floor, Ambassador Else NIZIGAMA, the new Assistant Minister, expressed her profound gratitude to the authorities who placed their trust in her by appointing her to these functions. She emphasized that the success of the missions entrusted to her will depend on collective commitment and everyone’s contribution. To that end, she called on all staff to work in a spirit of synergy, solidarity, and responsibility.
For his part, the outgoing Assistant Minister, Mr. Adolphe BUKURU, thanked the authorities for the trust he enjoyed during his tenure. He wished his successor every success in the accomplishment of her new responsibilities.
