On Thursday, May 7, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Edouard Bizimana , received in audience Mr. Alp IŞIK, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Burundi, accompanied by a delegation from the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), led by Mr. Murat ÇETIN, Coordinator of the TIKA Office in Kampala.

During their discussions, the Turkish Ambassador to Burundi announced good news for Burundi: the TIKA Office, previously based in Kampala, has just been relocated to Bujumbura. The TIKA Office Coordinator was recently accredited to Burundi, following the official visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Burundi to Turkey.
The two officials also discussed the upcoming meeting of the Joint Commission between Burundi and Turkey, which will take place in Turkey. They affirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly on both sides to ensure the success of this meeting.
The Ambassador also mentioned the humanitarian aid provided by Turkey to refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo living in Burundi.
Ambassador Edouard Bizimana warmly thanked Turkey for establishing the TIKA office in Burundi, emphasizing that this presence will significantly contribute to the technical guidance and implementation of numerous development projects. He commended the excellent cooperation between the two countries, appreciating the progress made on projects supported by Turkey in Burundi and the meetings between the leaders of both nations.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation also thanked Turkey for responding to the Burundian government’s appeal for humanitarian aid to Congolese refugees who fled the fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. He urged Turkey to continue supporting efforts to restore peace in the region.
