On March 10, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Édouard Bizimana, received in audience the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Burundi, H.E. Madam Ambassador Zhu Kewei, who came to present the copies of her letters of credence accrediting her as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Burundi.
His Excellency Minister Édouard Bizimana welcomed Ambassador Madam Zhu Kewei and wished her much success in her new responsabilities. He spoke of the historical, simple, solid, and silent friendship that exists between the two countries, based on mutual trust. He recalled the ongoing projects of China in Burundi and also nencouraged those that China brings to Burundi. He expressed hope that all ongoing projects would be implemented during her mission in Burundi. He also informed that the Government of Burundi appreciates cooperation with the People’s Republic of China, particularly in the field of infrastructure.
Her Excellency Zhu Kewei warmly appreciated the warm welcome she received. She indicated that cooperation between Burundi and the People’s Republic of China will
continue and develop further in synergy, in order to achieve autonomous development. She wished the Government of Burundi great success in implementing its vision of becoming an ‘’emerging country by 2040 and a developed country by 2060.’’ In this perspective, H.E. Ambassador Zhu Kewei informed that the People’s Republic of China will soon launch the construction works of the new Ministry building in Gitega, either at the end of this year or at the beginning of the following year, according to a Chinese pace.
She also affirmed that the zero customs tariff adopted by the Burundian Government contributes to the increased development of cooperation between Burundi and
the People’s Republic of China, which is beneficial for the population.
Minister Édouard Bizimana promised Madame Ambassador that the Government of Burundi is always ready to welcome all commitments in favor of the country’s development. He also assured her that the Government of Burundi will facilitate her visit to all regions of the country to examine tourist sites as well as to meet with
repatriates.
