On Sunday, June 22, 2025, the President of the Burundian diaspora in Uganda, Mr. BIGIRIMANA Elyse, met with members of the Burundian diaspora living in Uganda. This meeting was part of preparing for a dedicated week scheduled for July 29 to 31, 2025.
The Ambassador of Burundi to Uganda His Excellency Brigadier General Jules NDIHOKUBWAYO also took part in the general assembly. In his remarks, he thanked the diaspora for their ongoing efforts and encouraged them to keep working toward sustainable development both in Uganda and in Burundi. He also shared that the reports about their activities were positive, an evidence that they are good representatives of their nation.
Mr. BIGIRIMANA also reminded attendees about an upcoming diaspora retreat to be held in Bujumbura from July 25 to 27, 2025, gathering Burundians from around the world. This retreat will be closed by a national competition called ‘’INKINGI ZIMBONOKAZOZA EVENT’’, meant to support the vision of Burundi as an emerging nation by 2040 and a developed country by 2060, and to showcase the talents of diaspora members.
To wrap up, it was noted that a summit for the Burundian Diaspora from the East African Community will be held in Bujumbura from August 4 to 8, 2025, under the theme “ONE PEOPLE, ONE DIASPORA,” to discuss on the development of the Burundian diaspora and of their respective countries of residence.
