On November 3, 2023, Mr. Gérard Ntahorwaroye Bikebako, the former Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi in Türkiye was received by His Excellency Mr. Ahmet YILDIZ, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye as part of bidding farewell to the various authorities of the Republic of Türkiye. The exchanges between the two authorities focused mainly on the state of cooperation between Burundi and Turkiye.


They noted together that the cooperative relations between the two countries have increased recently and have enabled the free movement of goods and people. With a view to further strengthening them in the interest of the people of the two respective countries, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkiye indicated that a visit to Burundi by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Turkiye Republic is planned during from the 1st quarter of 2024 to a date which will be agreed with the Burundian party. That visit will be followed by that of the Minister of Defense of the Turkiye Republic as the Head of the delegation of the Turkiye Republic which will take part in the meeting of the Joint Economic Commission between the two countries scheduled in Burundi on a date which will be fixed by mutual agreement.
At the end of the audience, the authorities discussed other issues of common interest and especially those linked to the security situation in Africa. In that regard, the Vice-Minister rightly appreciated the efforts made by Burundi in the context of maintaining peace in Africa in general and in the East African Community, sub-region in particular.
