Designed to perpetuate the memory and legacy of the former South African president, this event aims to inspire younger generations. The goal is to pass on to them the values of courage, activism, and dedication embodied by this global icon, who dedicated his life to the fight against injustice, inequality, and apartheid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">For the 2026 edition, the South African Embassy, in partnership with the United Nations system, plans to translate these values into concrete actions on Burundian soil:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Support for Education: A distribution of desks will be organized for schools in the urban commune of Ntahangwa.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>Environmental Protection: Community service projects will be carried out to clean up and remove plastic waste from the shores of Lake Tanganyika.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9404 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2-300x228.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2-300x228.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2-1024x778.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2-768x584.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2-1536x1167.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SA2.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Commending the success of previous editions, the South African diplomat requested institutional support and coordination from the Burundian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make this year\u2019s event even more significant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Taking the floor, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Sophonie Nitunga, expressed his deep appreciation for this initiative and for the mobilization of the various stakeholders. He emphasized the unbreakable and historic bond that unites Burundi with the figure of Nelson Mandela:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Nelson Mandela was a giant of history for all of Africa, but he holds a particularly special place in the hearts of Burundians.
