Bujumbura on Monday, June 29, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Edouard Bizimana, granted an audience to the Ambassador of Sudan to Burundi, residing in Kampala, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed Awadelseed, who had come to pay a farewell visit at the end of his term.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Sudan and in his own name, Ambassador Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed expressed his deep gratitude to the Government of Burundi for the warm welcome he had received during his mission. He praised the quality of the collaboration with the Burundian people and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he described as constructive and exemplary.<\/p>\n

The two officials discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral relations between Burundi and Sudan. The Sudanese ambassador congratulated Burundi on its presidency of the African Union and commended the \u201cDiplomatic Week\u201d initiative, which he described as an ideal framework for fostering exchanges among diplomats, strengthening cohesion, and promoting national policy.<\/p>\n

He also expressed the hope that Burundi, drawing on its experience in peacekeeping, could support Sudan in its efforts to restore security in Khartoum. Recalling the commitments made at the ICGLR Summit in Kinshasa in September 2025, he emphasized the importance of finalizing the signing of memoranda of understanding in Bujumbura and exploring new areas of cooperation.<\/p>\n

In response, Minister Edouard Bizimana thanked Ambassador Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed for the work he had accomplished during his tenure and wished him every success in his new position. He reaffirmed Burundi\u2019s willingness to support Sudan in its efforts toward peace and security, noting that the humanitarian and security situation in Sudan is on the agenda of Burundi\u2019s presidency of the African Union.<\/p>\n

The Minister emphasized Burundi\u2019s commitment to expanding mechanisms for restoring peace in the Sahel region, stressing that the country remains dedicated to the values of peace and stability and will spare no effort to contribute to regional security.<\/p>\n

This meeting illustrates the shared commitment of Burundi and Sudan to strengthen their partnership and work together for peace, security, and development.
