He congratulated Burundi on its election to the Presidency of the African Union and on the growing role it plays on the regional and continental stages. He also extended his congratulations to His Excellency Ambassador \u00c9douard Bizimana on his recent election as Chair of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Billy Stewart then outlined the main areas of cooperation between the United Kingdom and Burundi, notably humanitarian action through assistance to refugees from the DRC and Burundians repatriated from Tanzania. He also referred to initiatives in the health sector, notably the fight against Mpox and cholera and the improvement of reproductive health, as well as in the fields of energy, agriculture, education and taxation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Regarding recurring diseases such as Mpox, cholera and COVID-19, His Excellency Ambassador \u00c9douard BIZIMANA proposed the construction of a centre specialising in the prevention and treatment of these diseases, similar to those that exist in some other countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tackling the issue of taxation, Mr Billy Stewart praised the historic relations between the United Kingdom and Burundi, which have notably contributed to the creation of the Burundian Revenue Authority (OBR). He informed His Excellency the Minister that the United Kingdom had recently funded three studies focusing on the functional review of the Tax Policy Directorate, the analysis of the framework for tax treaties within the Ministry of Finance, and the strengthening of the OBR\u2019s role in revenue mobilization through the facilitation of coffee exports and the fight against fraud.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His Excellency Ambassador \u00c9douard BIZIMANA thanked the British delegation for its unwavering support for Burundi\u2019s development. He emphasized that the country produces high-quality goods, notably Burundian coffee, which is recognized and appreciated on international markets.
