As part of the 61st meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa, held in Bujumbura from May 25 to 29, 2026, the experts’ work was marked on May 28, 2026, by a field trip punctuated by a symbolic tree-planting activity on Kibogoye-Muremera Hill, located in the Bugarama area, Muramvya commune, Gitega province. These trees were planted by delegates from the member countries of the ECCAS (Economic Community of Central African States).<\/p>\n

In his welcoming remarks, the Governor of Gitega Province, Mr. Liboire Bigirimana, indicated that the presence of the delegations at this tree-planting activity constitutes a strong sign of their common commitment to peace, security, solidarity and regional cooperation.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that this symbolic presence demonstrates that the ties uniting the nations of the sub-region transcend geographical borders, deeply rooted in the values of fraternity, peaceful coexistence, and a shared destiny. He also specified that this tree planting holds particular importance for environmental protection in facing climate change.<\/p>\n

The Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation, Mr. Adolphe Bukuru, indicated that this tree-planting activity embodies the theme of the 61st UNISAC Ministerial Meeting, namely: \u2018\u2019Strengthening regional mechanisms for conflict prevention, mediation and peaceful resolution for sustainable peace and resilient development in Central Africa\u2019\u2019 He stated that this initiative reflects the shared conviction that peace, security and environmental protection are closely linked.<\/p>\n

Mr. Adolphe Bukuru also recalled that Burundi remains committed to regional efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace through dialogue, mediation and cooperation between the states of Central Africa.<\/p>\n

According to him, the planted tree represents much more than a simple environmental gesture. It symbolizes the collective commitment of member states to peace, regional solidarity, conflict prevention, and building a resilient future for present and future generations.<\/p>\n
