At the invitation of His Excellency Mr Alp ISIKLI, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Burundi, Mr Ferdinand BASHIKAKAKO, Permanent Secretary, represented His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Development Cooperation at the official ceremonies held on October 29, 2025 at Club du Lac Tanganyika to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.<\/p>\n

In his speech, Mr BASHIKAKAKO highlighted the cooperative relations between Burundi and Turkey, mentioning the numerous agreements signed and high-level visits. He detailed cooperation in key areas such as education, health, trade and security, including scholarships for Burundian students. He also highlighted the importance of a joint commission planned for 2026 in Ankara, aiming at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries for the benefit of their respective peoples. The Permanent Secretary then spoke about the cooperative relations between Burundi and Turkey, mentioning the numerous agreements signed and the high-level visits that have taken place. He highlighted areas of intervention, particularly education, where scholarships are offered to young Burundians, as well as the opening of the MAARIF School of Turkey in Burundi and the operation of the YUNUS EMRE Turkish Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

As part of this celebration, His Excellency Mr Alp ISIKLI, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Burundi, also emphasized the importance of bilateral relations, expressing his joy at celebrating this day with distinguished guests, while sharing information on the friendly relations between Turkey and Burundi. He reiterated that relations between Turkey and Africa have grown considerably, with extensive diplomatic representation on the continent, and referred to the strategic partnership established with the African Union. Mr ISIKLI congratulated Burundi on the peaceful conduct of the legislative and local elections, as well as on its recent achievements on the international stage. He highlighted the fruitful military cooperation between the two countries and the training programs for Burundian officers, while mentioning the technical and humanitarian assistance projects implemented by Turkey through T\u0130KA.<\/p>\n

The Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Burundi’s commitment to this collaboration, while the Ambassador announced the organization of the fourth Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit scheduled for 2026. This celebration was an opportunity to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, while reaffirming the willingness to work together for the development and prosperity of their respective peoples.<\/p>\n
