Amb. Dr. Edouard BIZIMANA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi, co-chaired with his counterpart, H.E. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the preparatory ministerial session of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is a Japanese initiative launched in 1993 to promote the economic and social development of Africa through cooperation between Japan and African countries. Its main objectives include promoting sustainable development through strategies that integrate economic, social, and environmental aspects; strengthening partnerships between African and international countries; and supporting peace and security to ensure political stability. It also encourages infrastructure projects aimed at improving living conditions, as well as investments in health and education to promote human development. The 9th edition, held from August 20 to 22, 2025, addressed priority themes such as sustainable economic development, infrastructure and connectivity, strengthening health systems, improving access to education, combating climate change, and promoting peace. These discussions highlighted the common challenges faced by African countries while creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8205 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad-300x215.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad-768x549.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his opening speech, H.E. Minister BIZIMANA emphasized the importance of the motto \u201cco-creating innovative solutions with Africa.\u201d This approach is part of a partnership of equality, which is essential for the success of TICAD9. He highlighted the three pillars on which cooperation between the African Union (AU) and Japan is based: Peace and Stability, Economy, and Society. These pillars are crucial for the implementation of the African Union&#8217;s Agenda 2063, as well as the United Nations&#8217; 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8207 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mae.gov.bi\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/ticad2.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an engaging tone, he thanked the Japanese government for its hospitality and the good organization of the event. He also praised the dedication of senior officials and the TICAD9 Secretariat, who carefully prepared the necessary documents for the proceedings, including the Yokohama Declaration draft. The Minister emphasized the need to create a space for consensus to discuss African development priorities and described this consultation as essential for developing the political content that will guide the deliberations of the high-level segment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his closing remarks, H.E. Amb. Edouard BIZIMANA thanked all delegations for their active participation and valuable contributions. He expressed his gratitude towards H.E. IWAYA Takeshi and the Japanese government for their warm welcome and the excellent organization of the meeting. He emphasized that discussions on Africa&#8217;s development priorities had been very fruitful and congratulated participants for their commitment. The minister expressed his conviction that this ministerial meeting would lead to concrete actions and tangible results for African populations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In addition, he encouraged all parties involved in the TICAD process to spare no efforts to ensure the co-creation of innovative solutions, emphasizing the importance of effective multilateralism and international cooperation. In conclusion, H.E. BIZIMANA thanked the Japanese government and people for their continued support for the economic transformation of the African continent.
