On april 08, 2023, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Burundi in Brussels, H.E Mr Ambassador Th\u00e9rence NTAHIRAJA and his Spouse, accompanied by the Embassy Staff, carried out a field visit to the Antwerp Province in Belgium to enhance with his presence, the Annual Basketball Tournament, 2023 Edition.<\/p>\n

This basketball tournament has been organized every year for the past 8 years for the burundian diaspora living in Europe and Canada. For this year, fourteen basketball clubs from the burundian diaspora have been selected to participate in that tournament, 2023 Edition.<\/p>\n

Note that on march 13, 2023, the Ambassador of Burundi in Brussels received in audience Mr. Joe-Bryan MUTONI, the Representative of the Basketball Club of the burundian diaspora of Antwerp Province of who led the Committee which prepared that Basketball Tournament. Mr. Joe-Bryan MUTONI came to officially invite him to honor this tournament.<\/p>\n

After several eliminatory matches, for each group, two teams got the right to play the semi-final. In fact, for the first group, “Amicale Li\u00e8ge” team crossed swords with the Swedish team while for the second group, the “URUMURI ONE TEAM” from Brussels crossed swords with the “IMBONEZA” team from Brussels. Note that for the first group, the “Amicale Li\u00e8ge” team won the victory while that for the second group, it was the “URUMURI ONE TEAM” which won the semi-final.<\/p>\n

As usual, the winning teams of the semi-final will play the final. This is how towards the evening, the \u201cAmicale Li\u00e8ge\u201d team crossed swords with the \u201cURUMURI ONE TEAM\u201d team from Brussels. It was a very balanced game that got the whole crowd moving.<\/p>\n

After a long battle of very muscular games between the two teams, the “Amicale Li\u00e8ge” team finally won the final.<\/p>\n

After the match ceremonies, a dinner and dance evening followed. It was a unifying event that aimed at the burundian community abroad.<\/p>\n

Note that this tournament was an important event for the reunion of burundians abroad and social cohesion. It was a time when even people who looked down on each other changed their behavior and embraced each other when the team they fanaticized scored goals and won the game.
