The two parties discussed topics of common interest.

Usually, this visit is made to a member country of the Committee. Its purpose is either to assess the security challenges facing the country, or to collect the experiences acquired in the country to share them with the rest of the Committee. Having practiced this exercise for a long time, the members of the UNSAC Committee elected at the 52nd UNSAC meeting, held in Libreville in november 2021, decided to visit this time, the countries which have good practices that can be shared with other States Committee Members.

THE Kinshasa Convention recommends that each Member State of the Committee set up and operationalize a National Commission for the management of small arms and light weapons (SALW). During the 47th UNSAC meeting held in N’Djamena, in the Republic of Chad from 3 to 7 december 2018, Burundi made a brilliant presentation relating to the establishment and operationalization of the national institution for the management of SALW and he was chosen by his peers in the East African Community for a Regional Center of Excellence in this field.

Indeed, Burundi is a signatory and has ratified the Nairobi Protocol on the prevention, control and reduction of SALW in the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa and neighboring States. By implementing the provisions of this protocol, Burundi has set up the Permanent National Commission for the fight against the proliferation of SALW (CNAP) which has a centralized and decentralized structure and other tools promoting the good management of SALW, Taking into account good practices, experiences already recorded by Burundi, the members of the Bureau of the Committee elected by the 52nd UNSAC meeting decided to visit the Permanent National Commission for the fight against the proliferation of SALW (CNAP).

The general objective of the visit was to collect relevant information, necessary for the establishment and operationalization of National Centers for the management of SALW and to strengthen the capacities of Central African States for the control of aspects concerning illicit SALW through the effective implementation of the Kinshasa Convention and the prospects, in support of the AU’s vision of making firearms by 2030.

On monday, march 28, 2022, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation Mr. Ferdinand BASHIKAKO received in audience the members of the United Nations Permanent Advisory Committee in charge of Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC) conducted by Ambassador Landry MBOUMBA, Director of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign …

[4

post-3931","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","","category-news
["GET
