Membership of Burundi in International and Regional Organizations

At the level of Burundi’s presence in international and regional organizations, His Excellency Albert SHINGIRO, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, reports that the Ministry has carried out intense diplomatic approaches which have led to the following results:

-The election of Burundi as a member of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union followed by the presidency of this council by Burundi in april 2022. It was during this presidency that the Government of Burundi organized the continent-wide youth dialogue on youth, peace and security. This dialogue resulted in the Bujumbura declaration by which the young people asked/recommended to the authorities of the African Union to designate His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, President of the Republic of Burundi, the Champion of the African Union for the theme “youth, peace and security”,

-The decision of the Heads of State of the Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism of the Addis Ababa Framework Agreement to grant Burundi the presidency of the 11th Summit of Heads of State of the said mechanism in february 2023. Preparations for this major appointments are in progress and are proceeding normally.

– Also Burundi takes the second round at the Presidency of the East African Community (EAC) at the Summit of Heads of State of our common organization. His Excellency Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE, President of the Republic of Burundi is President-in-Office of the EAC from july 22, 2022.
