At the invitation of the Government of the Republic of Burundi, a high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco led by the Ambassador, Director General of the Moroccan International Cooperation Agency Mr. Mohamed METHQAL, carried out a visit at Bujumbura from February 8th to 9th, 2021 as part of the political consultations between the two countries.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO welcomed the delegation of the Kingdom of Morocco. He subsequently welcomed the visit which is an eloquent proof and a shared desire of the Governments of Burundi and Morocco to strengthen the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation which happily unite our two countries and our two respective peoples. These relations are based on the principle of mutual respect and trust as well as the principle of a mutually beneficial cooperation.
Speaking in turn, the Ambassador, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation Mr. Mohamed METHQAL welcomed the holding of this session and expressed the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to strengthen cooperation with Burundi in the domain of education, tourism, health, agriculture, renewable energies, and to develop economic partnership through the promotion of investments.
After that, the Ambassador, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation Mr. Mohamed METHQAL also announced the decision of the Kingdom of Morocco to open an Embassy with residence in Bujumbura as a reciprocity which will serve as a direct diplomatic bridge between our two countries.
The two Parts welcomed the existence of excellent relations of friendship and cooperation and pledged to strengthen and cement them further through a mutually beneficial and fruitful partnership. The two Parts also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
At the end of their meeting, the Moroccan Part conveyed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, an invitation to make a working visit to Rabat on a date which will be communicated via a usual diplomatic channel. Thereupon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO gladly accepted the invitation of his Moroccan counterpart His Excellency Nasser BOURITA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad.
