The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the gabonese Republic visits Burundi

On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Isidore NTIRAMPEBA welcomed at Melchior NDADAYE International Airport, a delegation led by His Excellency Mr. Pacôme MOUBELET-BOUBEYA, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Gabon.

On the morning of Thursday, November 12, 2020, His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, received in audience his counterpart from the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency Mr. Pacôme MOUBELET-BOUBEYA, carrying a message that His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon sent to his counterpart, His Excellency Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye.

 After the usual greetings, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation reminded the Gabonese delegation that Burundi and Gabon have good relations of friendship and cooperation.

For the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Albert SHINGIRO, diplomatic relations between the two countries have been very dynamic since His Excellency Omar Bongo presidency , the father of the current Gabonese President.

For this reason, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation reassured his counterpart in Gabon that Burundi is a country faithful to friendship, very commetted in all matters of common interest. The Minister also expressed Burundi’s desire for joint commissions and bilateral consultations between the two countries. He said that despite the crisis caused by covid-19, cooperation will always be strengthened.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation also indicated that the world is in a critical period in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, but this does not prevent from continuing the work. He pointed out that the situation of Covid-19 has been brought under control in Burundi.

Speaking, the Head of the Delegation first moved on to the presentation of the members of his delegation. He went on saying that the delegation carried a message from His Excellency the Gabonese President to his Burundian counterpart.

The Gabonese Minister of Foreign Affairs, in turn, has indicated that he welcomes the diplomatic relations that exist between these two countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation thanked the Gabonese side for its visit to Burundi and assured this delegation that His Excellency Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, will welcome them on Thursday, november 12,2020 in the afternoon at the Gitega Palace.

His Excellency Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, received in audience at the Palace of Gitega, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon, His Excellency Mr. Pacôme Moubelet-Boubeya. He was carrying a message from His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Gabonese Republic. In this message, the President of Gabon sent an invitation to his Counterpart from Burundi to take part in the 18th Summit of the Economic Community of Central African States.

His Excellency Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi, thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon for his visit to Burundi and welcomed the message of his Gabonese counterpart.

After the audience, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Gabon said in his interview that after handing the message to the President of Burundi, they exchanged on the free movement of people and goods, the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. His Excellency Mr. Pacôme Moubelet-Boubeya also appreciated Burundi’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Gabonese Republic His Excellency Mr. Pacôme Moubelet-Boubeya returned to Gabon on Thursday evening. The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, Mr. Isidore NTIRAMBEBA who accompanied them, seized this opportunity to give them with the various gifts offered to them by the President of the Republic of Burundi His Excellency Mr. Evariste Ndayishimiye.
